Gunya Maia - Byron holiday accommodation for peace and relaxation in Balinese style
soothe your soul
Gunya Maia is a special place to soothe your soul as you experience the unique beauty and energy that Byron offers. It is a peaceful sanctuary to retreat to in contrast with the vibrant, bustling life in Byron.
Large daybeds, overlooking the expansive private garden, provide the ultimate indulgence for a holiday read after a day on the beach. The range of verandah chairs, daybeds, and sunlounges, ensures that everyone can escape into their own place of peace. The outdoor ensuite bath is magical on a starry night. Indoor and outdoor spaces merge via bi-fold doors on two walls of the living area and French doors from every bedroom.
place of rest
Gunya Maia means ‘place of rest’ in the local Aboriginal language. The front corner of the garden is a midden site that must remain undisturbed. Standing under the tall pines that guard this site is an experience of connection to the ancient history of our land. Middens are deposits of food refuse, often mostly shellfish remains, that are the physical evidence of long-term occupation or periodic campsites of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people at places of rich food supplies. All midden sites are protected under the provisions of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and the Torres Straight Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003.

Gunya Maia sleeps seven guests, featuring one king bedroom with outdoor ensuite, two double bedrooms and a single bedroom.
Gunya Maia provides accommodation for couples and families (and pets where practical).
